Heroes:
This first unit is focusing on heroes, specifically identifying and defining the qualities of heroes. We will also be looking and focusing on the impact heroes can have on mankind. We will be using both fictional and non-fiction text.
They will be able to describe heroes, tell the difference between a hero and a celebrity, and develop their ideas about why a person may be considered a hero.
We will also be reading and focusing on Greek mythology to determine the traits displayed by several Greek heroes.
We have started the year first focusing on character traits.
These are how somebody would describe a person or character based on the way they act or respond to others.
Examples include:
brave, courageous, friendly, helpful, loving, smart, clever, intelligent, polite, thoughtful, determined, responsible, confident, proud, honest, greedy, impolite, impatient, irresponsible, lazy, selfish, cowardly, envious, shy, compassion, perserverance, etc.
We read an awesome story called Stone Fox. While reading we were analyzing the characters and how they impacted one another throughout the story. We practiced doing close reading and really looking back in the text to answer questions. They did an amazing job and really were engaged with the story.
